The Lost Coast Trail - Mattole to Black Sands Beach
by Amy Purdum

The Lost Coast trip was one of our most beautiful, yet most strenuous backpacking adventures so far. On this trip we packed farther than we ever have before in a day's time. We conquered the sand, the rocks and everything in between.

As a group we each conquered our physical limitations and preformed outstandingly. The fact that we essentially packed the Lost Coast in two days pretty much says it all.

A few key points I took away from this trip are:

From now on, I will always make my own Vegan Power Bars. They are much better than store-bought bars.

Keep your dog's booties on his feet as much as possible when hiking the Lost Coast.

Even if one of your backpacking team members smokes, don't be surprised when they are in the lead, and try not to secretly despise them for it.

Always keep one eye on the ocean, as it always has its eye on you, waiting for your guard to be down.

Vodka and Aleve are a great combination if you want to fall asleep pain free.

This trip only increased our level of packing and I am looking forward to our next trip. What adventures will be in store for us next?
