| Nutrition is important when your hiking. But eating really sucks when
the food you are eating tastes like crap mush. Here is a list of good grub
that will keep you nourished in the backcountry, and not induce vomitting. |
Mojo Bars
Mojo bars are my personal favorite. They are slightly salty, and slightly
sweet. Because it doesn't have the chocolate, or otherwise sweet gooey coating,
it doesn't melt in your pack or pocket on hot hikes.

Breakfast
Usually it consists of 2 packets of instant oatmeal.
I also like to make lunch at breakfast, have a high protein breakfast, bag
up the leftovers for a good lunch. My trail recipe:
Pre-cooked smoked sausage
1 cup of instant rice
Brown the sausages in your pan.
Add rice and equal amounts water.
bring to a boil, simmer to desired consistency.
Bag it up and booyeah. |

Lunch
Is lunch supposed to be a real meal? because it never is. It is usually
lasts no more than 20 minutes. Thats why leftovers is easiest. An option
that I've never tried but looks mighty tasty is the Rauser Wrap:
Flour tortillas, PB&J, roll it up, wrap in foil - tasty-licious ...
nuff said.
The Ferd method:
Choose two freeze dried meals, cook, and grub - Ferd-it-up! |
Dinner
We are allowed to go all out at dinner. I often opt for freeze-dried
backpackers food. Mountain House
Brand food is an evolving new choice. They have recently introduced
a ziplock bag in which you can cook your food, and then zip it up to store,
or to use as a garbage container. My favorite flavors:
 |
Spaghetti with Meat Sauce - an all time favorite. It has a nice consistency,
a meaty rich sauce and cooks quickly and easily. |
 |
Stroganoff with Beef and Noodles -
The rich creamy texture is surprisingly delicious. It takes a little extra
time to rehydrate the beef, but its worth the wait. A little dab of tapatio
and this slop is gourmet. |

Block o' tofu |
Amy's vegetarian meal -
Her diet consists of dense protein and low-no sugar.
Baked Tofu
Fake sliced deli meat
Mixed Raw Nuts
Protein Plus - sugar free bars - Mocha Brownie |
